Dear Parents and Carers

There are two sports notices attached to this communication that I would encourage you to engage with around our upcoming swimming and cross-country carnivals. While mentioning sport, I would like to acknowledge the accomplishment of Olivia Medford in Year 10 for recently making the Pacific District Football Team – well done Olivia.

Being involved in a sporting activity has many benefits from health to general wellbeing and there are lots of opportunities at Calvary to engage with sport. We are genuine when we discuss valuing student voice and choice at our College, which is why we have our first ever team of students entering the Mountain Biking – Rocky Trails Academy Series in the next few weeks. Why do we have a mountain biking team? Because it was a passion of one of our students who started finding a group of others who shared that passion. Then they brought their idea and action plan to us, and we considered how we could support them in their initiatives, and a new sporting group was born! This is also the same reason we added esports to our program the other year and we have seen this cocurricular grow exponentially over the past twelve months.

We love seeing our kids show initiative, find problems, and then propose solutions to those problems (what a wonderful life-skill). If there is something your child would like to see Calvary involved in, encourage them to bring us a thoughtful idea and action plan, and who knows, that just might find that available as an option in the future.  Let’s partner together in encouraging our students to become people who seek out opportunities that benefit the wider community and then act to make their dreams a reality. This is a key marker nationwide of graduates from the independent Christian sector - statistically they are more likely than graduates from all other sectors to contribute to the common good (charities, not-for-profit involvement, etc.,) as they enter adulthood.

Calvary Schools Livestock Challenge - 24 & 25 February

Have you ever wondered what it is that our Show Team do at Shows?

Well, this weekend we are hosting the Calvary Schools Livestock Challenge at the Carbrook Campus on the ANZAC lawn, and we would love you to stop by.

There will be just under 100 sheep on display and students from eight schools attending. Feel free to drop in between 10am and 4pm on Saturday to see the students, and sheep, in action.

We will also have our famous Bake Sale and BBQ running. Fifty percent of the funds raised will be donated to Drought Angels and the balance will be used to support the team attending Ekka later in the year.

Welcome to week 5. All ensembles and lessons have now commenced, and students should be getting into a routine of attendance at lessons and rehearsals and home practice.

We welcome to the department Mr Samuel Lower who is the new flute and piano teacher. Mr Lower has been teaching in schools for many years and has experience teaching private and group lessons and taking ensembles. The Performing Arts Department welcomes Mr Lower to the school.
