Dear Parents and Carers

I don’t know if you have noticed, but there is something very special about our community at Calvary. Last Friday night I had the privilege of attending the bush dance which drew over 300 people for a night of dancing and fun. I was proud of our Year 11 student team who worked with Mr Arraiol to put this event together and make it such an enjoyable evening. It was so successful that next time we do this, we will be moving to an open-air venue because we only just managed to fit everyone in our community centre. This week we have activities every day for Science Week and next week we move into book week, which I end up immensely enjoying every year despite my natural aversion to dressing up.

Community is something we build together. At times stepping out of our comfort zone can be uncomfortable, but building relationship and connections is ultimately very rewarding. Our calendar is jam-packed with community events and cocurricular activities – there is always something for someone to do. I would encourage you to ask your child what activities they have joined that sit outside of the classroom context. Students who may be very introverted or struggle making friends should join a group doing an activity – it’s a great way to start making connections. If we get involved in community we all reap the benefits!

Book Week

Book Week is approaching, and we are kicking it off with a book fair from the 23rd- 25th August students can come along to the LIC and purchase books and stationery at first or second break. On the 24th August students can dress up as their favourite book character from any genre or time.
There are prizes for best dressed!

Father's Day Movie Night

On Friday the 25th of August the College is hosting an Outdoor Movie Night we are inviting families to join us to view the original Toy Story movie. All proceeds from the evening will go towards supporting our Children of Compassion that each year level sponsors. On the night we will have food and drinks for purchase and there will be fun and games for the whole family to enjoy before the movie begins. Although this event is titled as a Father's Day event we encourage the whole family to attend and enjoy the evening with us. Please remember to bring your own picnic blanket or chairs to enjoy the movie with us.
