Middle School

Welcome to our caring Middle School

At Calvary Christian College, Middle School students are transformed from consumers into confident, competent, caring, collaborators who use their strengths to create safe, positive environments - where young people can flourish.

Teachers look at learning experiences through students’ eyes to optimise engagement and to create rich, meaningful learning experiences. New flexible learning spaces foster greater collaboration and differentiation to create life-long learners and influential global citizens.

We nurture influential relationships that create positive environments where students feel safe enough to try to take risks and learn how to use new information. Students and staff enjoy change, embrace challenges, and value risk-taking. We create a Growth Mindset culture where success is regarded as a work in progress which requires sustained effort, feedback, goal setting and creative collaboration. Students are mentored to develop critical thinking and creativity in a culture that celebrates individual diversity and values listening, supporting, contributing, negotiating, respecting, and caring.

Our positive behavioural approach nurtures the same Growth Mindset principles that empower students to flourish academically. Instead of trying to determine who should be blamed in our behavioural conversations, we create opportunities for students to understand different perceptions and then collaborate to find creative solutions to fix things. Students are coached to work cooperatively in teams, participating in service to others, accessing and providing support in a caring community.

Our holistic education creates opportunities for students to make influential contributions to faith, service, academia, culture and sport.
We have high expectations of our students and staff. As a ministry of Logan Uniting Church, we strive to be a school of significant influence: embracing our communities, transforming lives and empowering people to live out their holistic potential in Christ.

We look forward to building a positive partnership with you during these important years.

Middle School: Years 7 to 9

Year 7

Year 7 is a year designed for an effective and successful transition from primary to secondary schooling. Students have a core class, home room and home teachers plus a Year Level Coordinator (YLC) to ensure strong pastoral and learning relationships develop across this important transition.

Learning is delivered in an innovative and dynamic framework within a specialised Year 7 Learning Centre with additional ‘taste and see’ elective subject rotations. Learning throughout Calvary is ITC integrated with our student laptop program and Digital Learning Portal.

Year 8

Year 8 is a discovery year with an intentional increase in subject offering and learner independence. A rich array of subject offerings complements the core studies delivered by specialist teachers.

Year 9

Year 9 is a Leadership and Personal Development Year. All students intentionally participate in an outdoor camping program based upon leadership, teamwork and resilience. This can be further extended with the participation in the College's Duke of Edinburgh program. A Middle School LeadershipTeam is appointed from within the year level, which run assemblies, school and peer based support activities.

Academic pathways begin to emerge as student select three electives matched to their ability, interest and future learning pathway in addition to their core subjects.

Throughout the Middle School journey students are supported by Year Level Coordinators, the Learning Enrichment team, Pastoral Care teachers, the College Counsellor and Chaplaincy team to assist students to form a healthy and confident social, emotional and spiritual identity, alongside their academic development.
