At Calvary we love our sport and endeavour to deliver developmentally appropriate and rigorous sporting programs, which are part of a healthy and balanced school program.
Calvary Christian College encourages the physical health and development of our students offering Physical Education as a curriculum subject, development programs, an off-site aquatics program for Junior School students, interschool sports for Years 4-12 students, community sport with the Underwood Netball Association, Logan Uniting Church Soccer Club, Brisbane Metropolitan Touch Football Association and many other sports depending on the interest and skill level of our students. Calvary is highly regarded as a successful Futsal school and our Futsal program boasts a significant level of success at all levels of competition, including State and National Championships. Our students are also encouraged to participate in our Interhouse carnivals and a variety of co-curricular sports are offered on and off campus.
Each year many students join sporting teams and attend training, finding fulfilment in seeing the rewards of their hard work, team spirit and extended endurance pay off at the end of each season.
The College also encourages students to achieve their individual sporting potential, offering many opportunities through representative pathways.
The values we uphold at Calvary sport are:
• Winning with humility and losing with dignity
• Fair play and honesty
• Self-discipline, commitment and persistence
• Fun and enjoyment
Swimming program for Prep to Year 3
Every Prep to Year 3 student participates in an intensive swimming program in either Term 3 for Carbrook and Term 4 for Springwood. This consists of five hours of teaching catering for beginners to more moderate abilities.
The following sports carnivals take place in the Junior School:
Block gala days take place at the end of Terms 1 and 3 for cricket, soccer, netball, basketball, touch and softball. Students compete in two five week blocks of gala sport days which consist of a round robin competition.
Two training sessions a week take place in Terms 1 and 3 for Athletics and Cross Country. These training sessions are an integral part of Calvary sport offerings. Additional training for the gala days takes place during the lunch break for interested students.
