Debating and Public Speaking

Re-introduced to the College in 2007 with only five students involved, the Debating and Public Speaking Program has grown in leaps and bounds. Now involving both campuses, students at Calvary Christian College have ample opportunities to excel as communicators.

Debating teams are entered in the Queensland Debating Union Competition (Yrs 5-12) with teams regularly competing in the Finals Round of this competition. Additionally, senior students compete in the Beenleigh Rotary Competition with teams representing Calvary Christian College in the Grand Final of this competition for the last 5 years, and winning in 2010 and 2012.

The college has entered students in a variety of Public Speaking competitions including Rostrum Voice of Youth, Lions Youth of the Year and the AB Paterson Public Speaking Competition. Entries continue to increase in these competitions, allowing students from Years 4 to 12 to compete. Not only are student participation numbers increasing, but results have yielded overall winners in year groups on several occasions.
